Inland Valley Council of Churches Golf Tournament to Feed the Hungry and Shelter the Homeless

The Inland Valley Council of Churches (IVCC) is pleased to announce its 10th annual golf tournament on Thursday, April 27, 2006 once again at the prestigious Sierra La Verne Country Club. Doug Whiteley, AIG, and John Forbing, State Farm Insurance, will be co-chairing the event. Whiteley indicated: The work they do to help the needy in our community comes at a low point in people’s lives when it is more appreciated than most of us could ever imagine.” Forbing echoed that sentiment: “Service to others is the best work of life. Volunteering with the IVCC is fun and satisfying.”

Golf registration begins at 11 a.m. with the shotgun start at 12 noon. After a day of golfing, the social hour and silent auction will begin at 5 p.m. with dinner following at 6 p.m. Golfers receive a full day of fun including carts, tee package, refreshments, prizes and a gourmet dinner. All proceeds from this tournament go to support IVCC programs.

Anthony Munoz, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, who had a successful career with the Cincinnati Bengals, has agreed to join the golfers again as the Celebrity Golfer. Locals remember Anthony as an incomparable all-around athlete who was a Chaffey High School two-way, two-time prep football All American, a standout on both offense and defense. While playing football at USC, Coach John Robinson nominated Anthony for All-World. “He’s one of the greatest football players I’ve ever been associated with at ANY position,” Robinson declared.

Rob Fukuzaki, ABC7 “Eyewitness News” Sports Anchor/Reporter, will be joining the golfers on the course, and be the celebrity host at the evening’s dinner. Rob graduated with a BA in Broadcast Journalism from the University of LaVerne, and is involved in a great deal of charity work in the community.

IVCC offers an array of services for those in need, including Our House Shelter, currently the only emergency housing for families in the Inland Valley, Gateway transitional living, and the food security program with sites in Ontario, Pomona and San Dimas. These services are provided to over 65,000 people annually, half of whom are children.
