Brian Mammen is an 18 year old graduate of South Hills High School and a resident of San Dimas, California. He has been battling osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer for the past three years. A benefit dinner including live and silent auctions was held on Sunday June 11, 2006 to help defray the medical costs for the Mammen Family. King Taco Racing and Performance Motorsports donated a racing experience to the high bidder in the silent auction portion of the event. Mike Bakke was an honorary crew member for the day in the running of the King Taco 200 on Saturday July 22, 2006. We spoke to Mike and learned that he is an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed being on the crew. Also included in the package were grandstand and parking passes graciously donated by Irwindale Speedway. |
Steve Portenga was excited about coming back to Irwindale Speedway to start the second half of the season. “We always run good at Irwindale and I like our chances for this 200 lap race” said Steve. “I’ve won 2 races there and it is one of my favorite tracks.” The King Taco Racing Performance Motorsports team led by crew chief Dusty O’Connell brought the car that they ran there earlier this year, leading 33 laps. The car is a short track 105 WB Laughlin Ford Taurus. “This car is Steve’s favorite car and he has run good with it everywhere we’ve taken it” said Dusty. Performance Motorsports would like to acknowledge it’s fine sponsors that made it possible for this championship race including King Taco Restaurants, Auto Marine Engineering, Superior Gear & Axle, Signco, Joor Brothers Metal Service, Stoughton Printing and Jan’s Towing.
