A local San Dimas female resident has played Little League for the past 5 years and has excelled against the boys. Sharayah Grattan, age 12, has been named once again to the San Dimas Little League All-Star team (that makes 4 years in row). Sharayah began pitching 4 years ago when her Manager James Smith noticed her velocity and her competitiveness and she has been pitching in San Dimas Little League ever since. Last year, her team (theTigers), won the Minor division championship behind her great pitching. This past season she lead her team (the White-Sox) in innings pitched (62) with 74 strikeouts and only 19 walks with a 1.16 ERA. Sharayah also lead the team with a .446 batting average. |
Sharayah has been asked a number of times why she doesn’t move over to play softball with the rest of the “girls”? She answers that “I tried that once and found it boring and I enjoy competing with, and striking out the boys much better anyway.” Sharayah also plays “club” soccer with the Claremont Stars and is the teams Goalie. She balances her baseball with soccer and keeps up an Honor role Grade point average at Ramona Middle School and in her spare time, Sharayah loves to play classic and electric guitar. You may have seen Sharayah competing with her teammates in the Little League District tournament hosted this year in La Verne. She hopes that her San Dimas team will advance all the way to Williamsport and the Little League World Series. |
