Walnut — Mt. San Antonio College health career students won a gold medal and had 12 finalists compete at the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) national competition held recently in Anaheim. More than 4,000 secondary and post-secondary students representing 41 states competed in 40 events at the national tournament. Mt. SAC’s Defina Osby (Inglewood) won a gold medal in extemporaneous speaking. Other competitors for Mt. Chotinan Mahapiti (Walnut) and Chris Egbduche (Claremont), who were finalists in creative problem solving. Mt. SAC’s Arlyn Valegjo (La Puente) was a finalist in extemporaneous writing, Sherri Randall (Ontario) was a finalist in prepared speaking, and Jacob Oroks (Fontana) was a finalist in researched persuasive speaking. Established in 1976 by the U.S. Department of Education, HOSA is the national organization for secondary and post-secondary health career students. The organization provides students in more than 40 states with skills, leadership development, and career development. |
