The Inland Valley Humane Society (IVHS), in conjunction with many shelters in Southern California, has received animals from the areas afflicted by hurricane Katrina. In a wonderful turn of events, one of the dogs housed at IVHS is being re-united with his owners in Louisiana. The Inland Valley Humane Society offered to receive 20-30 dogs and was given 10 dogs. IVHS is working hand in hand with all shelters in the Southern California area to care for and house these animals. “Champ” came to IVHS with 9 other dogs from hurricane-ravaged Louisiana. Luckily for Champ, he had an ID tag! IVHS contacted his owners, but they were unable to take him home right away because they had no home themselves. Their home had been destroyed by Katrina. IVHS cared for Champ until his owners could claim him. They now have a new home and were reunited with Champ earlier this month.. All animals received from the hurricane-ravaged areas will be cared for at the Humane Society and held until October 15th. At that time, many were made available for foster care and/or adoption and are listed on Petfinders.com. Any adoptions of the refugee animals would not, however, be final until after December 31st. |
This was to allow any original owners to find their beloved pet. If owners do not, or are not able to, come forward to claim their pet, these animals will be given a second chance to be “Companions for Life” with a new family. The Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to providing protection, shelter and medical care to stray, unwanted, abandoned and injured animals from all walks of life. IVHS provides animal welfare services to the cities of Chino, Chino Hills, Claremont, Diamond Bar, La Verne, Montclair, Ontario, Pomona, San Dimas and the western unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County. |
