Known as the longest running community Western Art Exhibition in the nation, the 30th Annual Western Art Exhibition & Sale drew a large attendance. An estimated 4,000 - 5,000 people enjoyed the works of art brought to the Exhibition by artists from across the nation. Sponsored by the San Dimas Festival of Arts, the reputation of the event has grown nationally through these 30 years. The San Dimas Civic Center Plaza was the venue for the Exhibition. The added attractions of the Trading Post, Artisan Outpost, Kids Korner, demonstrations by Blacksmith Carl Sharp, Cowboy Poet: Daryl Knight and the Student Art Display captured the attention of a wide audience. The Artists’ Quick Draw drew a crowd of looky-loos watching them complete a work of art in 45 minutes. Those that watched then entered into the lively biddings for the art. In addition to their art shown in the Gallery, artists brought works of art which were auctioned on Sunday afternoon. Auctioneer Steve Orcutt kept the bidding at a fast pace with a full house in attendance. Special Exhibiting Artist, David Lemon, gave an art seminar Saturday morning. William Churchill, Jr. was the recipient of the Festival Choice award for his wood sculpture “Tribal Historian” and Joe Eggert won Best of Show for his bronze sculpture “Takin’ A Tally.” |
In compliance with its mission statement to: “enrich life in the community through enjoyment and appreciation of the fine and applied arts,” the San Dimas Festival of Arts has underwritten the six art pieces displayed in San Dimas. An upcoming event is the Wine Tasting & Auction to be held August 6th. The Festival is also selling tickets to the Concert Under the Stars. This will be a dinner and concert at the Hafif Family Estate in the hills above La Verne. The dates are August 12th and 26th. The Festival of Arts is actively raising money to assist the City of San Dimas in the renovation of the Walker House, formerly known as the San Dimas Mansion. Built in 1887 it is on the National Register of Historic Places. A Golf Tournament will be held February 26, 2007 at the Via Verde Country Club to raise funds for this project.
