Walnut — Two Mt. San Antonio College students will advance to the SkillsUSA national competition after winning gold medals at the SkillsUSA state tournament held recently in Riverside. Mt. SAC students won a total of five medals at the competition. Peter Dekluyver (Clare-mont), who won a gold medal in the electronics technology competition, and Fred Gonzales (Pomona), who won a gold medal in the computer maintenance technology division, will advance to national competition scheduled for June 19 in Kansas City, MO. |
Other medalists for Mt. SAC included Anita Ying (Baldwin Park), who won a gold medal in architectural CAD, Justin Santana (Rancho Cucamonga), who won a silver medal in computer maintenance technology, and Yu T. Chow (Walnut), who won a silver medal in electronics technology. SkillsUSA (formerly the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America-VICA) is a nationally affiliated vocational club representing secondary and post-secondary students in the trade, technical, and health education fields. The vocational education organization represents more than a quarter million students in over 13,000 chapters nationwide. |
