Again this year, the City of San Dimas will have the honor of hosting a statewide function. The volunteers of this city will be providing the support and direction needed to produce the Miss Rodeo California Pageant, aided by the local business sponsors who donate to the worthy cause of providing scholarships for contributing to the future education of these outstanding contestants. This year, eleven young ladies from throughout the state of California will vie for the honor of representing the rodeo industry at various functions during the year and then compete for the title of Miss Rodeo America in Las Vegas during the annual event held in December each year in conjunction with the National Rodeo Finals. The California Pageant begins on October 3rd with the Horsemanship event held at the Tex Shoemaker arena in Horse Thief Canyon Park. This portion of the competition demonstrates the ability of the contestant to handle a horse they have never ridden before and successfully complete two patterns of riding difficulty. The opening festivities begin at 3:00 P.M. and tickets are available through the Chamber of Commerce or the MRCP office in San Dimas. These tickets are provided free as a contribution from Broken Horn Saddlery, the western wear store in Baldwin Park. |
The next two days of competition continue with personal interviews during the morning and in the evening it moves to the City Hall complex in the Plummer Community Building. It features speeches, modeling of western wear and answering impromptu questions by each of the contestants. Tickets are available at the door both Wednesday and Thursday nights at 7:30 and the price is $5:00 each night. The most exciting part of the entire week takes place on Friday night during the Coronation Dinner held in the Ballroom of the Shilo Inn Hilltop Suites. Reservations must be made in advance (call 909-394-0052 or the Chamber office) and tickets are $40/each. The culmination of the judging for the entire competition results in the selection of the new Miss Rodeo California for 2007 and the five runners-up, each of who receives a number of wonderful prizes and scholarships.
